TORCH SYNDROME: RATIONAL APPROACH TO PRENATAL AND POSTNATAL DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT IN ECUADOR

The TORCH syndrome represents an important concern in the obstetric and neonatal field due to the possible complications it can cause in the fetus (1). In Ecuador, where maternal and child health is a priority, it is essential to have a rational and optimal approach to the diagnosis, pre- and postnatal treatment of this syndrome, which can be very dangerous (2). The importance of timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment in fetuses and newborns will be analyzed (3). Conduct a comprehensive literature review on TORCH syndrome, its diagnosis, and pre- and postnatal treatment in Ecuador, based on relevant scientific evidence. A bibliographic search was conducted in electronic databases: Scielo, Redalyc, Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, among others, which were evaluated based on the feasibility, relevance, and accuracy of the information related to the topic, as well as the timeliness of the scientific content. Indexed articles published in the last 10 years in Spanish and English were selected. 29 articles (100%) from indexed journals were extracted and selected. Review articles, systematic literature reviews, and clinical case reports presenting diagnoses and treatments for TORCH syndrome were included. The importance of diagnosis to adequately treat neonatal and newborn patients and ensure proper development.
